The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the Franklin Memorial Library Monday morning, October 26, at 9 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, they had 38 in attendance. Jacob Wedincamp provided the outstanding breakfast consisting of sausage biscuits, grits and apples. Shari Watt provided the orange juice, grape juice, cranberry juice, apple juice, and coffee. The speaker of the morning was Will Donaldson of Donaldson Surveying Company of Swainsboro. He talked about his company and the 20 counties that they provide service too. Will has been surveying for over 30 years and has enjoyed every minute of it and seeing features from over 200 years ago when these counties were first surveyed for their landowners. He has run across many hidden cemeteries that families have moved off and sold farms that date back to when Emanuel County was first formed in 1812. Will plans in the future to give the veterans the GPS location of these small family cemeteries so that we might be able to place a wreath on some veterans’ graves.
Chair Johnny then called on Gary Mason who presented a $500.00 check from the Swainsboro Rotary Club for the Wreaths Across America project on December 19, 2026.
Everyone is invited to the special dedication of the new Veterans Wall on November 7, at 11 a.m. at the Veterans and 1st Responders Memorial Park and the dedication of the "Liberty Tree monument" by the Wiregrass Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution at the same time.
