Each year Family Connection sponsors the fundraising project for the Emanuel County Ferst Readers program. This is the program that sends books to the homes of children from birth to 5 years old each month at no cost to the family. The community pays for the books. The Ferst Readers company is a non-profit organization that furnishes the quality, age-appropriate books along with a parent newsletter. Each county in Georgia can participate but must raise the funds and promote enrollments while being managed by a local organization. Family Connection is that local organization for Emanuel County.
Our big fundraiser is currently taking place. It is an online "Book Character Contest". We have 16 different entries competing to see who can raise the most money by October 31st. The contest is financially managed by Ferst Readers with a secure online "voting" process. One vote costs $4. The books that are sent cost $4. We suggest that the "Characters" ask for donations that would cover a year's worth of books for a child…just $48.
We have had great success in the previous year’s enough to support the Emanuel County program. Our goal this year is $10,000. We have raised $2,909 so far and are hoping to get to that goal with the help of the community members who want to make a difference in the lives of our youngest readers. This program is available to every child under 5 years old with no regard to income. We want every child to have a love of reading. This will put them ahead as they enter school.
Our leaders are 1st Place - Cinderella and the Fairy Godmother; 2nd Place - Phantom of the Opera
3rd Place - The Cat in the Hat.
The Fairy Godmother visited a few "Prince Charming’s" to receive donations from Durden Bank and Pinetucky Country Meats. Thank you to both of these businesses that support childhood literacy!
