The Emanuel Retired Educators Association held its October meeting on Wednesday, October 21, at noon, in the Swainsboro Primary School Media Center. The meeting began with the signing of a proclamation recognizing November 1 as Retired Educators Day in Georgia.

Following the signing, President Teresa Bright welcomed members and called the meeting to order. Swainsboro Primary School Principal Sarah Tapley welcomed the group and expressed her appreciation to the retirees. She also shared information about the school’s focus on literacy.

EREA member Kaytrene Bright presented Almeatta Durden, Swainsboro Primary School and Teacher of the Year, with a beautiful flower arrangement in recognition of her achievement.

Tammy Gray gave the invocation, and members enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by the Swainsboro Primary School food service staff.

The program was presented by Dr. Denise Warnock, Superintendent of Emanuel County Schools, who shared an update on the school system. She reviewed the system’s strategic plan, which focuses on student achievement and success, family and community engagement, a high-quality workforce, school climate and culture, operational efficiency, and organizational effectiveness.

Dr. Warnock also shared statistics about the system’s budget, student enrollment, and employees. She concluded by highlighting the benefits of ESPLOST and the opportunities offered through the system’s Edge Career Academy.

President Bright led the business portion of the meeting, during which committee reports were given. She reported that the group had provided treats for the Swainsboro Primary School staff. EREA continues to support the Sunshine Advocacy Center and the American Diabetes Association through monthly donations. Members also donated school supplies to SPS. In November, the group will provide breakfast for the veterans’ group.

EREA wishes to thank Swainsboro Primary School staff for the warm hospitality they extended to the group.

The next meeting will be held at noon on Wednesday, November 18, at Swainsboro High School. Georgia Representative Butch Parish and Senator Max Burns will provide the program.
