The Swainsboro Tigers showed early promise against Bleckley County Friday night at Tiger Field, but a competitive opening stretch gave way to a difficult finish as the visiting Royals pulled away for a 42–17 victory.
Kyle Johnson provided an early spark with a long run that helped set up Swainsboro’s first touchdown. The Tigers also added a field goal as the teams exchanged scores, giving the home crowd reason to believe another closely contested region battle was unfolding.
Swainsboro’s momentum stalled, however, as the Tigers went scoreless in the second and third quarters. Trailing Bleckley County 21–10 at halftime, Swainsboro remained within reach, but a decisive third quarter widened the deficit to 35–10. The Tigers added a fourth-quarter touchdown but could not overcome the gap.
The loss dropped Swainsboro to 2–4 overall and 1–1 in Region 2-AA. After opening region play with a victory at East Laurens, the Tigers now face the task of regrouping and finding the consistency needed to turn promising stretches into a complete performance.
That opportunity comes Friday night when Swainsboro travels to Dublin for another chapter in a longstanding rivalry. Last year’s meeting delivered an unforgettable finish and a memorable Tigers victory. This year, Swainsboro hopes the rivalry matchup can provide the spark needed to get back on the winning track.
For Swainsboro, the stakes extend beyond rivalry bragging rights. A victory would restore momentum and move the Tigers to 2–1 in region play with three region games remaining. Sustaining drives, finishing scoring opportunities and making timely defensive stops will be key to bouncing back.
Kickoff is Friday, October 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Dublin. Tiger Nation is encouraged to make the trip and support the black and gold as Swainsboro looks to return to the win column.
