Halftime of Friday night’s football game carried added significance for Tiger Nation as Swainsboro High School welcomed seven new members into its Hall of Fame, honoring individuals who left lasting marks on the school’s athletic history.
The late school superintendent Erma Jenkins was recognized for her leadership and contributions to Swainsboro athletics. Donald Jenkins accepted the award on behalf of his late wife.
Former superintendent Butch Frye was also honored for his leadership and contributions to Swainsboro athletics.
Also inducted were Leroy Jordan, coach of the 1996 state championship basketball team, and Sergio Washington, a standout multisport athlete and member of that championship squad. Their recognition brought renewed attention to a memorable chapter in Swainsboro basketball history.
Baseball standout Rusty Kea joined the class alongside Brandon Andrews, a standout running back and multisport athlete who played running back on the Tigers’ 2000 football state championship team.
Former head football coach Rayvan Teague, who led Swainsboro to that championship, rounded out the class. Brandon Andrews accepted the award on Teague’s behalf.
The halftime ceremony gave Tiger Nation an opportunity to celebrate the people behind some of Swainsboro’s proudest athletic moments. Through leadership, coaching and competition, these seven inductees helped build a tradition that continues to inspire those wearing the black and gold.
