Swainsboro High School alumnus Jayson Brown recently took his passion for music education from the classroom to the nation’s capital, representing Georgia Southern University at the NAfME Collegiate Leadership Advocacy Summit (CLAS) and NAfME Hill Day in Washington, D.C.
Brown, currently pursuing a degree in Music Education at Georgia Southern University, joined students and educators nationwide for the annual event hosted by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).
The multi-day Collegiate Leadership Advocacy Summit offers NAfME Collegiate members professional development in leadership, advocacy, and networking. This year, the summit was held alongside the NAfME National Assembly, giving participants further opportunities to engage with experienced educators and observe the NAfME National Executive Board.
Brown also represented Georgia Southern University at the NAfME Collegiate Awards of Excellence Ceremony, accepting the Chapter of Excellence Award in Recruitment on behalf of the university’s NAfME Collegiate chapter.
The summit concluded with NAfME Hill Day, where participants met with congressional representatives and staff on Capitol Hill. Brown joined fellow advocates to share experiences and emphasize the need for ongoing federal support for music education.
This experience enabled Brown to combine his training as a future educator with advocacy for his chosen profession.
Brown’s progression from Swainsboro High School’s music program to Georgia Southern University and now to advocacy in Washington, D.C., is a source of pride for the SHS community.
His achievements exemplify how Swainsboro High School graduates continue to learn, lead, and make a positive impact beyond their hometown. Once a Tiger, always a Tiger.
