Tomlinson Funeral Home & Crematory announces the death of Nellie Myrtle Greenway, age 94, on Friday, October 2, 2026, at the Mitchell Mack Hospice House in Mooresville, North Carolina. Graveside memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 7, at 2 p.m. at Hawhammock Missionary Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. David Anderson officiating. Family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service.

Nellie was born November 14, 1931, in Jefferson County, to the late Roy McDonald and Ruby Thompson McDonald. She lived most of her life in Canoochee and Swainsboro before moving to North Carolina in 2019 to live with her daughter, Linda Hunnicutt. Nellie worked for many years and retired from Twin City Manufacturing Company. She was a phenomenal southern cook, and anyone was welcome anytime at her table. If you never had one of her Apple Tarts or a bowl of her homemade vegetable soup, you missed it! Nellie worked long hours throughout every summer in her large garden and always made sure she had enough to share abundantly with family and friends. She loved her family and was a devoted wife to her husband, Kenneth. Her children always knew she was there for them. Nellie’s first granddaughter named her Meme in 1972, and that’s what she was affectionately called by her family for the rest of her life. Mrs. Greenway is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Greenway; brothers, Woodrow McDonald and Harold McDonald, and sister, Rebie McDonald.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda Hunnicutt (Cliff) of Troutman, North Carolina; son, David Greenway (Carla) of Bainbridge; grandchildren, Michelle Close (Calvin), Alecia Haskins (Robert), Alaine Hunnicutt, Maria Hunnicutt (Ryan Frank), Cliff Hunnicutt IV (Kailey), Samantha Greenway (Bryan Dean), Scott Greenway and Spencer Greenway; eight great-grandchildren; and a special nephew, Jeff Greenway.

Tomlinson Funeral Home of Swainsboro is in charge of arrangements.
