Glad Garden Club making plans

Posted

The Glad Garden Club held its monthly meeting at the beautiful Sudie A Fulford Learning Center located on the campus of Georgia Southern University, East Georgia Campus. Sherri Burke, a new member, brought a friend who decided to join our wonderful group. We are so glad to welcome another new member, Jill Price, from Midville. Our little club just keeps on growing. LeaAnn Williams also brought a guest, Kathy Ross, that is giving thought to joining our family of happy gardeners.

The meeting was called to order by President JoAnn Trammell who welcomed all and was thrilled that we are growing. An inspirational message was given by Sylvia Durden, quoting Psalms 146:1,2 in praising the Lord in all that we do. Due to a sudden scheduling conflict our speaker had to cancel but the club filled our meeting time with fabulous preparations for our part in the Oleander District Meeting to be held at the Nordson Center in Swainsboro on October 21, 2026. The theme is "Blue Jeans, Boots and BBQ" and members are excited about outfits to wear to this event. Members had great ideas in how to decorate a welcome to guests to the Center in celebration of the 250th anniversary of our great USA along with a western, country type flavor. A total of ten clubs participate in hosting this event along with the Seedling Garden Club and the Glad Garden Club. Members were also invited to participate in a Patriot's Day event put on by Missy Elder at the Museum.

LeaAnn Williams reported that our project to plant azaleas in the Veterans and First Responders Park is temporarily on hold as meetings with Johnny Tapley and the City Manager resulted in LeaAnn bringing up that it would be useless to plant very much of anything since there is no water source at present. Once a water source is in place we will be able to plant our babies with a better chance of their survival. Sylvia Durden presented many horticulture items with highlighting the Spider plant and giving specimens to members as she reports that the plant is easy to care for especially for those that are less committed to flowers.

Meeting was adjourned to Leanna's for Lunch.

The Glad Garden Club meets on the second Monday of every month from September to May at the Sudie A. Fulford Learning Center unless otherwise notified. Our next meeting will be November 9, 2026, at 10 a.m. If you love gardening, digging in the dirt or even if you don't, we would love to have you visit/join our club. We are a club of "Green Thumbs and Glad Hearts".

The Glad Garden Club is a member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs, Inc., the Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. and the Oleander District.
