Fair is foul, and foul is fair

In less than a week, it will all be over. Hmm...let me rethink that for just a second. Okay, let's try it again. In less than a week, it may all be over, unless it takes the vote counters in Minnesota or Texas or Georgia or Maine six months to count and recount and figure out who didn't get their votes in on time and who counted the illegal votes, and if all the lawyers and all the Secretaries of States of all the blue states, and all the losers who claim voting fraud get satisfied, and the Supreme Court decides who is going to sue whom, then and only then maybe the caustic cauldron known as the 2026 mid-term elections might actually come to an end, and we won't have to watch while our TVs are continuously commandeered by pollsters, Democrat Socialists, network talking heads and other unsavory people, and Jon Ossoff (official record holder for the most money ever spent on TV commercials in a Georgia Senate race). Okay, that was a long sentence. Take a breath, but after you do, don't forget about all of the minions all over the podcast-world and the conspiracy theorists who will be stirring up more spells and mischief about election results than the three witches in Macbeth. Well, with my apologies to Mr. Willliam Shakespeare, it seems very appropriate to roll all of this mishmash together under the heading of "double, double, toil and trouble". This 2026 campaign season certainly has all the odious trappings and supernatural activities of a Halloween horror fest, complete with all the gremlins, goons, and goblins.

And when it is finally over, what difference will it make, you ask? Good question. Regardless of the winners, the answer to that question is very, very little, if any difference at all. Unless there is a huge monster of a surprise, waiting around the dark corner, the number of House and Senate members with a D after their name will be within a frog's leap of the number of House and Senate members with an R after theirs. Consequently, the twain shall seldom if ever meet in the middle. “Bipartisan” is a hauntingly evil descriptive, and no one in Washington, D.C. wants to be accused of that, so the Ds and the Rs shall continue throwing rocks at one another from a great distance as they have been taught to do in the past. Nothing that looks like a compromise will be tolerated or seriously considered, and nothing will get done. Sound familiar? Wait one more minute! I neglected to mention something that does have a pretty good chance of happening. If things really get devilish and spooky and desperate enough, you could see the end of the well-loved and highly hated Filibuster in Congress. Of course, that would spark some nuclear-sized hatred among the Democrats, but nuclear didn't seem to worry them too much when Iran was threatening the world with it, so I guess it's really not that much of a big deal to the Dems anyhow. So, in the words of the Three Witches, ”Fair is foul and foul is fair.” You know, that pretty much wraps up the story with this election. Come to think of it those witches would fit right in over at CNN. I can’t say for sure, but I imagine there is a (D) or maybe a (DSA) after those old girls’ names too.

Anyhow, there's my prediction for November 3, 2026. No big changes ahead. There will likely be some sweet treats around if you knock on the right doors, but also there’s a chance of some real mean tricksters on further down the sidewalk. Just be careful crossing the street and watch out for those (D) witches. With thanks to Mr. Shakespeare, Mrs. Eloise Bailey, my seventh-grade literature teacher, Kirby Smart, Demello Jones and Gunner Stoockton, I close with Happy Halloween and GO DAWGS, BEAT GATORS, and VOTE like you know you should!!
