Commission announces upcoming vacancy on Tax Assessor’s Board, looking for applications from residents

Emanuel County is seeking a community member to serve on the Emanuel County Board of Assessors beginning in January 2027.

The Emanuel County Board of Commissioners will appoint a new member to fill an upcoming vacancy on the board.

Members of the tax assessor’s board are required to complete state certification training, the cost of which Emanuel County will cover.

This particular board plays an important role in Emanuel County’s property tax system.

It is responsible for overseeing the assessment of real and personal property and helping ensure property is assessed fairly and uniformly under Georgia law.

The board currently meets at 9 a.m. on the first Thursday of each month at the assessors’ office inside the new Davis–Thompson Building.

Interested residents may apply at emanuelco-ga.gov by selecting How Do I > Apply For > Board/Authority Volunteerism.

The application includes all boards and authorities for which the Emanuel County Board of Commissioners appoints members or submits nominations of potential members for consideration.

Applicants may select as many as they are interested in serving on, but those interested in this vacancy should be sure to select the Board of Assessors.

The Board of Commissioners could make a preemptive appointment as early as its November 2026 meeting or make the appointment at its December 2026 meeting so the new member is in place for January.

Therefore, interested residents are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
