The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting Monday morning, August 31, at 9 a.m. at Calvary Methodist Church. Chair Johnny Tapley presided over the meeting, with 53 veterans and guests in attendance.

The Calvary Methodist Church Missions Committee provided an outstanding breakfast for the veterans, including biscuits, gravy, jelly, mixed fruit and all the trimmings. A variety of juices, including orange, grape, cranberry and apple, along with coffee, were also served. The veterans expressed their appreciation to Calvary Methodist Church for providing the breakfast and thanked the Missions Committee.

Chair Tapley introduced the newest member of the group, Charles David Andrews. Andrews is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps who served from 1976 to 1980. He was stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan. He was a member of the 2nd FSSG at Camp Lejeune and the 3rd FSSG at Camp Hansen. His highest rank was Sergeant E-5.

Tapley then called on Gary Mason for a special presentation benefiting the Wreaths Across America project. Mason presented Veterans at the Library Treasurer Scotty Nasworthy with a $500 check on behalf of the Exchange Club.

Tapley also reminded the group about the upcoming 30-gun drawing that will be held throughout the month of September. A winner will be selected each day, and it is possible for one ticket to win more than once.

He also gave an update on the new Veterans Wall being constructed at the Veterans and 1st Responders Memorial Park. The wall is expected to be completed later this year, by November 7. Veterans' families can get a form at the library to submit information about their veteran for inclusion on the wall.

Veteran Terry Reynolds spoke to the group about the upcoming Wounded Warriors Retreat 15th Annual Sportsman's Banquet and Auction, to be held October 8 at 5 p.m. at Beaver Creek Plantation. Advance tickets are required. For tickets or additional information, contact Terry Reynolds at 478-494-3758, Richard Driggers at 912-290-1108 or Nick Kraus at 912-687-6781.
