Varsity Eagles lose to Varsity Patriots in game one of playoffs

David Emanuel Academy Varsity Eagles had trouble keeping up with Citizens Christian Academy Varsity Patriots in game one of the playoffs Saturday at South Commons Softball Complex, losing 8-1.

The Patriots jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Klair Mercer drew a walk, scoring one run, Abrah Harris hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Peighton Harper singled, scoring two runs. A single by Gracie Giddens extended the Varsity Patriots lead to 5-0 in the top of the second inning.

Harper earned the win for Varsity Patriots. The starting pitcher allowed seven hits and one run (zero earned) over seven innings, striking out one and walking one. Rayleigh Faircloth took the loss for Varsity Eagles. The starting pitcher went seven innings, giving up eight runs on nine hits, striking out six and walking four.

Faircloth went 1-for-4 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Kaley Flowers went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Varsity Eagles in hits.

Harper led Varsity Patriots with three runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The pitcher went 1-for-3 on the day. Giddens led Varsity Patriots with three hits in four at bats. Emma Gourley collected two hits for Varsity Patriots in four at bats.
