Tigers find their rhythm in weekend sweep before holiday break

The Swainsboro Tigers basketball team delivered a confidence-building weekend, picking up back-to-back victories that showcased both resilience and firepower as the calendar edges toward the holiday break.

The Tigers opened the stretch Friday night inside the Den, where they faced South Effingham with a much different look than usual. A handful of injuries forced adjustments to the starting lineup, but the changes did little to slow Swainsboro’s momentum. Instead, the Tigers leaned on composure, balanced scoring, and steady defense to secure a 61–57 non-conference victory in front of the home crowd.

Senior L.J. Morgan set the tone offensively, finishing with a team-high 26 points and delivering timely baskets whenever South Effingham threatened to swing momentum. Robert Johnson followed with 14 points and key rebounds in traffic, while Aquarri Tillman added eight points and provided consistent defensive pressure as Swainsboro protected its lead late. The Tigers controlled key stretches of the game in the middle quarters and showed poise down the stretch to close out the win.

Following the game, head coach Brice Hobbs pointed to his team’s adaptability as a turning point. With rotations adjusted and players stepping into expanded roles, Hobbs praised his group for staying locked in and responding under pressure, especially in a home environment where expectations run high.

Less than 24 hours later, Swainsboro carried that energy on the road to Claxton and turned in one of its most complete performances of the season. From the opening tip, the Tigers dictated tempo, using defensive intensity to create transition opportunities and build an early cushion. The lead grew quickly and continued to stretch as Swainsboro showcased its depth, with contributions coming from across the roster.

The Tigers’ defense set the tone throughout the night, limiting scoring opportunities and forcing Claxton out of rhythm, while the offense remained unselfish and efficient. By halftime, Swainsboro had seized full control, and the second half served as a continuation of disciplined execution in an 82–32 victory.

The weekend sweep pushes Swainsboro to 4–3 overall and sends the Tigers into the holiday break with momentum and confidence. With players stepping into new roles and chemistry continuing to develop, the Tigers appear to be finding their identity as the season progresses.

Swainsboro will have two more opportunities to build on that momentum before the year comes to a close, returning to action on Dec. 27 and Dec. 29 in Christmas tournament play in Statesboro, Georgia, as the Tigers look to carry their rhythm into the new year.
