The Swainsboro Tigers Track and Field program is headed to the state stage after an impressive showing at the Region 3 Sectional Meet.
Originally scheduled for Saturday, May 2, the meet was pushed back due to inclement weather and was ultimately held in Bleckley County on Monday, May 4. Despite the delay, Swainsboro athletes rose to the occasion and delivered strong performances to secure their spots in the GHSA State Track Meet.
Leading the qualifiers is Shannon Benjamin, who advanced in both the high jump and triple jump, continuing to establish himself as one of the top field athletes in the region. Ja’bios Smith also turned in a standout performance, qualifying in the triple jump and long jump while also contributing to the boys’ 4x100 meter relay team.
In the field events, Christian Tarver in shot put and Ajontae Floyd in discus each earned state berths with strong efforts.
On the track, Marco Danford qualified in the 100-meter dash, while Javari Williams secured his place in the 400-meter dash. Kali Brown will represent Swainsboro in the high jump after a solid performance.
The boys’ 4x100 meter relay team consisting of Ja’bios Smith, Marco Danford, Daveyhon Williams, and Kyle Johnson also punched their ticket to state, showcasing their speed and chemistry on the track.
These athletes will now compete at the GHSA State Track Meet on May 12 at the University of Georgia campus, where they will look to continue their success against the best competition in the state.
Good luck to all Swainsboro Tiger qualifiers as they prepare for the next level.
