There’s a different buzz around Swainsboro right now and it’s starting to feel familiar. Over the past week the Tigers put together a three-game winning streak taking care of business on the road and at home while building momentum the right way together.
The run began at Toombs County where Swainsboro had to earn everything it got. It was a physical low scoring game that demanded patience and toughness and the Tigers answered. Swainsboro defended rebounded and stayed composed late to pull out a 46-39 road win. Ja’Bios Smith led the Tigers with 14 points while LJ Morgan added 10 as Swainsboro leaned on steady production and effort to grind out the victory.
Head coach Brice Hobbs said afterward the win set the tone for what followed. “That’s the kind of game that shows character” Hobbs said. “We stayed disciplined stayed together and found a way to finish.”
That confidence carried over to Savannah Country Day where the Tigers faced a tough road environment just days later. Swainsboro handled the moment with poise answering runs and staying locked in for four quarters. The Tigers left Savannah with a 67-60 win paced by Smith’s 24 points and Morgan’s 22 as Swainsboro continued to show balance and consistency when it mattered most.
“When you can win on the road it tells you a lot about your team” Hobbs said. “We trusted the work and didn’t let the moment get too big.”
Back home against Appling County that belief showed from the opening minutes. Feeding off the energy in the gym Swainsboro played with confidence and control steadily pulling away to secure an 85-71 victory. The Tigers spread the scoring around in their highest output game of the streak a performance that reflected a group settling into rhythm and understanding its identity.
For Hobbs the most encouraging part of the three-game stretch has been how his team has represented Swainsboro. “These kids are starting to understand what it means to play for this town” he said. “Effort pride and doing things the right way that’s what matters.”
It’s also worth noting that Swainsboro played Savannah Christian the night before this edition of The Forest Blade went to print. That matchup will be covered in next week’s issue as the Tigers continue a stretch of competitive play.
In Swainsboro, this three-game winning streak feels like more than just numbers in the standings. It feels like momentum building belief returning and a program moving forward one possession at a time. Inside the gym the message is clear Swainsboro basketball is finding its stride.
