By the time you read this article, the ECI softball team will have played their last region game. Yesterday, Tuesday, they traveled to Pembroke to take on Bryan County. The 19-3 Bulldogs are currently 13-0 in region play.
Statistically, the Bulldogs have reached one of their goals this season, winning another region championship. But there was no celebration until they reach their second goal, to go undefeated in region. To say they have dominated the region would be an understatement. Along with a perfect record, the Lady Dawgs have given up just 8 runs in 13 region games.
They did suffer their first loss since August 15 when they lost to Camdem Co. On September 22, they took on Toombs Co. in a non-region match up, losing to the Bulldogs 3-1. They defeated Toombs earlier in the year 6-1. ECI took a 1-0 lead into the seventh inning, but Toombs found their mark in the bottom of the inning scoring 3 runs to get the rematch win against the Lady Dawgs. MK Durden pitched a perfect game last week for the Bulldogs against Portal in an 8-0 shutout. She faced the minimum 15 batters in 5 innings with no hits, walks or errors. Lola Walden had the hot bat against the Panthers with 3 hits. Dot Russell was the other multiple hitter for the Bulldogs.
Thursday, September 25, ECI faced Jenkins Co., coming back from Millen with an 8-0 win against the Eagles. The Lady Dawgs had 4 players with two hits. Dot Russell, Senaria Hillman, MK Durden and Hadleigh Henry left Millen with two hits each. Durden held the Eagles to just 2 hits with 3 strikeouts.
Along with Bryan Co. yesterday, the Lady Dawgs travel back to Toombs Co. on October 2 to take on the Indians from Vidalia.
