The Swainsboro Lady Tigers flag football team closed out a resilient and growth-filled season last Thursday, December 4, as they traveled to Albany, Georgia, to compete in the GHSA Division I State Playoffs. The games were hosted at Monroe High School, where Swainsboro entered as the third seed in their bracket.
In the opening round, second seeded Jordan faced third seeded Swainsboro, while fourth seeded Elbert County took on top seeded Monroe. With Jordan advancing from their matchup, the Lady Tigers were eliminated in the first round after a hard-fought effort in challenging conditions.
Swainsboro confronted significant adversity even before kickoff. From facility challenges to temperatures dropping into the 40s and a steady rain that lasted the entire game, conditions were far from ideal. Despite all of this, the Lady Tigers refused to let the circumstances become excuses. They stayed disciplined, focused, and determined from start to finish.
Offensively, Swainsboro showed flashes of momentum, but the wet field and slippery ball made it difficult to sustain drives. Defensively, the Lady Tigers held strong for much of the night, but a few late miscues allowed Jordan to secure a 13 to 0 victory.
Head Coach Alexandria Walden expressed tremendous pride in her team’s growth and resilience. She shared that while the loss was tough, the strides made this season show how bright the future is for the program. The Lady Tigers finish the year with a 7 and 10 record, a major improvement from last season’s 2 and 7 finish.
Coach Walden, her staff, and the entire team also wanted to extend a special thank you to the fans, parents, administration, and the school community for their unwavering support throughout the season. From home games to long road trips, the encouragement and pride shown for the Lady Tigers made a tremendous impact on the players and the coaching staff.
As the season closes, the program looks ahead with excitement. With a strong foundation now in place and valuable experience gained, the Lady Tigers are determined to return next year stronger, more confident, and ready to build on the progress made this season.
