The Swainsboro Lady Tigers closed the regular season Friday night with a 50–31 victory over Woodville-Tompkins, finishing the year with momentum and clarity as postseason play approaches.
From the opening tip, Swainsboro established control through defensive discipline and physical play. The Lady Tigers contested shots, limited second-chance opportunities, and stayed connected on the defensive end, never allowing Woodville-Tompkins to find a consistent rhythm. Offensively, Swainsboro remained patient, valuing possessions and steadily creating separation as the game progressed.
Leading the way was A’Acaylah Murphy, who delivered a strong all-around performance with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Murphy’s double-double anchored the Lady Tigers in the paint on both ends of the floor, as she consistently finished possessions and helped control the tempo of the game. While Murphy provided the scoring presence inside, Swainsboro’s success was built on a collective effort. The Lady Tigers shared the ball, communicated defensively, and received contributions across the lineup, closing out the contest with balance and composure.
Following the win, head coach Alexandria Walden expressed satisfaction with how her team wrapped up the regular season and the position they have put themselves in heading into postseason play.
“I’m proud of how our girls finished the regular season,” Walden said. “Ending the year 20–4 shows the work they’ve put in and the consistency they’ve played with. This game was about staying focused, doing the little things right, and carrying the right mindset into postseason play.”
With the regular season complete and a 20–4 overall record secured, Swainsboro now turns its attention to the Region 3-A Tournament, which will be held this week at Vidalia High School in Vidalia.
The Lady Tigers enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed and earned a first-round bye. Swainsboro will open postseason play on Thursday at 4:00 p.m., facing the winner of Savannah Country Day and Toombs County in the semifinal round. A victory would advance the Lady Tigers to Friday’s region championship game.
Walden made it clear that while the long-term vision for the program remains competing for a state championship, her team’s focus is firmly rooted in the present.
“Our long-term goal is competing for a state championship,” Walden said. “But right now, we’re focused on the task at hand. The region tournament gives us another opportunity to get better, and if we stay locked in and take it one game at a time, we put ourselves in position to possibly bring a region championship home.”
The Region 3-A Tournament features a competitive field on both sides of the bracket. On Swainsboro’s side, the Lady Tigers await the winner of Savannah Country Day and Toombs County. The lower half of the bracket includes the region’s top seed, Vidalia, who earned a first-round bye and will face the winner of St. Vincent’s Academy and Woodville-Tompkins. Winners from each semifinal will advance to Friday’s championship game, while the remaining teams will compete in consolation matchups that help determine final region placement and state playoff seeding.
Tiger Nation is encouraged to make the trip to Vidalia High School on Thursday to support the Lady Tigers as they open region tournament play with a championship berth on the line. Fans unable to attend in person can follow the action live on the NFHS Network with a paid subscription or listen to the broadcast for free on Radio 93.5 The Rocket. Radio coverage will be led by Lee Stewart, with Roosevelt Young, also known as Coach Ro, providing color commentary and analysis.
With postseason basketball underway and state playoff implications at stake, Swainsboro enters region play focused, prepared, and committed to the task directly in front of them as they continue their pursuit of a championship season.
