The Swainsboro Lady Tigers closed the final week before the holiday break with a three-game stretch that revealed both their toughness and their growth, finishing the stretch at 5–3 overall and heading into the new year with momentum.
The week opened with a region matchup that required the Lady Tigers to make the long trip to Savannah on a school night to face St. Vincent’s, an all-girls program that has previously competed in the region. With the game added specifically for region play and no boys contest attached, the responsibility fell solely on the Lady Tigers to handle the challenge. Despite the long travel, the environment was familiar, and Swainsboro played with poise from the opening tip. The Lady Tigers controlled the tempo, made key defensive stops, and executed in crucial moments to secure a 53–46 road victory.
Following the win, Coach Alexandria Walden emphasized that the focus was never on the circumstances but on handling the opportunity in front of them. She noted that St. Vincent’s was a familiar opponent, but the long travel and added importance of a region game required discipline and maturity. Walden said she was proud of how her players stayed locked in, took care of details, and handled business in a game that mattered.
The Lady Tigers returned home Thursday night for a non-region matchup against South Effingham that quickly turned into one of the most challenging contests of the stretch. The two teams were evenly matched, trading stops and possessions throughout a physical, tightly contested game. Several close officiating calls created moments of frustration, but Swainsboro never allowed that to become an excuse. The Lady Tigers continued to compete, played through adversity, and stayed engaged until the final horn. South Effingham eventually pulled away late, handing Swainsboro a 47–38 loss.
In reflecting on the game, Walden pointed to how balanced the matchup was and credited her players for maintaining their composure. She said the Lady Tigers continued to play the game the right way despite the challenges and took valuable lessons from the experience, adding that growth often comes from learning how to respond when things do not go your way.
That message carried over into Saturday’s road trip to Claxton, where the Lady Tigers delivered one of their most complete performances of the season. Swainsboro made the necessary adjustments and handled business from start to finish, finding its rhythm offensively and playing with confidence on both ends of the floor. The Lady Tigers were especially effective from beyond the arc, with Millie Kingsbury, Kali Brown, and Mckinley Walden each knocking down three-point shots that stretched the defense and set the tone early.
Defensively, Swainsboro was relentless. KK Murphy and Lay Freeman sparked an aggressive effort, forcing turnovers and applying pressure throughout the game. The defensive intensity fueled transition opportunities and helped the Lady Tigers cruise to a dominant 74–20 victory, closing the stretch on a high note.
Walden credited the response and focus following the South Effingham game, noting that the team took coaching, made adjustments, and played connected basketball. She highlighted the balanced scoring, defensive pressure, and overall energy as signs of continued growth.
The win at Claxton marked the Lady Tigers’ final contest before the new year. Swainsboro will return to action on January 3 inside The Den against Statesboro High, looking to build on the lessons learned and carry momentum into the next phase of the season.
