You’re invited to come celebrate Patriot’s Day with us. Sponsored by ECHPS, the Wiregrass Chapter, Brier Creek Chapter and the Little River Chapters of The Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution along with the Governor David Emanuel-Adam Brinson Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution will be at Longview Farm and Home Museum on Saturday, October 17, 2026 to celebrate our Country’s 250th Anniversary. Time is 10a.m. until 4.p.m. Those groups will set up to replicate the early days in our history. This will truly be an event to attend. It will be cooler weather and even though football will be in full force, we urge you to find a moment to come by.
The SAR groups will have tables set up to display guns, knives, animal skin products, much more and will fire their canons and guns. We will have a working blacksmith, a woodcarver, corn grinding and grits making, and hope to have many artisans who will demonstrate how things were made in the old days. Artisans will have their wares to sell. Please call me at 478-763-3631 if you make candles, weave cloth on a small loom, quilt on a small loom, crochet, knit, tat, make brooms, write in calligraphy, any “old timey” crafts.
Our 14 buildings that date from 1860 – 1920s will be open. The newly refurbished agricultural equipment looks good in its new home, the “Ag Barn”. Inside the museum building can be found the SHS class photos from 1930s until 1980s with ECI and DEA items also there. The red roof shed covers an old Frick peanut picker/thresher and a 1917 Fordson tractor. The 1890s one room school house is fully furnished. “Sycamores” has 1860s items on display.
Old buggies, military items from Civil War to Korea are set up for perusal. Many items from older businesses around the county are on display. The Highway 56 Drive-in Theatre sign has its neon installed and the Sam’s Drive-in rocket has new transformers. There is a wonderful, complete display on turpentining, a major industry in this county until the late 1960s.
Plan to come by. Hope to see you there! There will no fee charged for this event.
