DEA Varsity Eagles walk-off in nail-biter against Trinity Christian Varsity Crusaders

It came down to the wire on Tuesday, September 30, as David Emanuel Academy Varsity Eagles grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 6-5, over Trinity Christian Varsity Crusaders. The game was tied at five in the bottom of the seventh when Kaley Flowers doubled, scoring one run.

DEA Varsity Eagles built a four-run lead in the second inning and then held off Trinity Christian Varsity Crusaders’ charge. Trinity Christian closed the gap by scoring on an error, a single, and a single.

Trinity Christian was the first to get on the board in the first when MG Alligood grounded out, scoring one run. An inside the park home run by Rayleigh Faircloth gave DEA Varsity Eagles the lead, 3-1, in the bottom of the first. Varsity Eagles added two runs in the second. Flowers singled to center field, making the score 5-1.

Trinity Christian Varsity Crusaders tied the game up in the top of the seventh, thanks to two singles. Varsity Crusaders tied the game at five on a single by Liza Gay.

Faircloth earned the win for Varsity Eagles. The starting pitcher surrendered 10 hits and five runs (two earned) over seven innings, striking out nine and walking none. Alligood took the loss for Varsity Crusaders. The pitcher went six and one-third innings, allowing six runs (three earned) on six hits, striking out one and walking one.

Payton Peebles and Flowers were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Varsity Eagles while hitting back-to-back. Flowers and Faircloth each drove in three runs for Varsity Eagles.

Varsity Crusaders tallied 10 hits in the game. Alligood drove the middle of the lineup, leading Varsity Crusaders with two runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 1-for-4 on the day. Gay led Varsity Crusaders with two hits in four at bats.
