Coach Ricks returns to inspire at Swainsboro Basketball Banquet

The Swainsboro Tigers, Lady Tigers, and Basketball Cheer program will host their annual basketball banquet on Wednesday, April 1 at 6 p.m. in the new gym at SHS. The event will be an RSVP, invite-only gathering as the program comes together to celebrate the accomplishments of this year’s teams.

This year’s banquet represents more than just a night of recognition. It signals a renewed direction for Swainsboro basketball, with an emphasis on building stronger traditions, reinforcing program culture, and setting a clear foundation for future success.

Highlighting the evening will be special guest speaker Coach Frederick Ricks, a familiar and respected name within the Swainsboro community. Ricks, who is currently entering his 24th year at Carrollton High School, has built an impressive coaching résumé across both football and basketball.

Before his time at Carrollton, Ricks made a lasting impact at Swainsboro High School. He served as a defensive line coach and girls basketball coach, helping guide the Tigers to a state championship in 2000. During his tenure with the Lady Tigers, he led the program to three region championships and a state title appearance. His contributions earned him assistant coach of the year honors in both football (1999–2000) and basketball (1999–2002).

Ricks has also been part of five state championship appearances with Carrollton’s football program and previously helped lead the Lady Trojans basketball team to two state title appearances, including a championship in 2009.

Beyond athletics, Ricks serves as a pastor at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Roopville, bringing a message that extends beyond the game.

As Swainsboro basketball continues to grow, the banquet aims to blend reflection with vision. Program leaders hope that by honoring the past while embracing change, the event will inspire student-athletes to carry the program forward with purpose and pride.
