The Swainsboro Tigers gave fans a glimpse of their potential Saturday night, roaring to a decisive 91-69 victory over the Claxton Tigers in an electrifying scrimmage at The Den. The matchup, filled with physical play and high-energy moments, was a perfect way to ignite excitement for the season ahead.
From the opening tip-off, both teams showcased grit and determination, but Swainsboro’s relentless pace and offensive firepower proved too much for Claxton to handle. Head Coach Brice Hobbs praised the intensity of the game, saying, "We played a well-disciplined team. Right now, we are still trying to find our identity, but we were able to get out in transition and get some easy buckets!"
Swainsboro’s offensive spark came early, thanks to senior KaVoyea Williams, who fearlessly drove to the basket, setting the tone for the Tigers. Senior Carmelo Lewis orchestrated the offense with precision, keeping the team composed and in control. Meanwhile, junior sharpshooter L.J. Morgan lit up the scoreboard with his pinpoint accuracy, helping Swainsboro maintain a substantial lead throughout the game.
Despite the impressive win, Coach Hobbs acknowledged there’s still work to be done. "I feel like we can score at will, but we have to concentrate more on transitioning back on defense and win the rebounding mission. We are not where we need to be at this point and time. However, with God on our side, anything is possible," he stated.
The Tigers' physical play on both ends of the court electrified the crowd, and their teamwork shone through as they adjusted to Claxton’s disciplined attack. Coach Hobbs emphasized that growth remains a key focus as the team embraces the mantra for the season: Perfect Timing.
Swainsboro fans won't have to wait long for the next chapter of this journey. The Tigers will hit the road on December 6th, to face Treutlen in another thrilling matchup.
