Swainsboro Track Teams prove it’s “no fooling around” with strong invitational finish

On a day built for jokes and pranks, the Swainsboro High School track and field teams made one thing clear there was no fooling around when it came to competition.

Last Wednesday, on April 1, the Tigers traveled to compete in the Raiders “No Fooling Around” Invitational, and by the end of the meet, both the boys’ and girls’ teams had secured third place finishes overall against a competitive field.

From the opening events to the final results, Swainsboro athletes consistently showed up, delivering strong performances and making their presence felt across multiple events.

Leading the charge for the Tigers, Christian Tarver dominated the boys shot put, claiming first place with an impressive throw of 48 feet. Shannon Benjamin continued his strong season with a first-place finish in the high jump, clearing 6 feet 2 inches, showcasing both athleticism and consistency in the field events.

On the girl’s side, Triniti Kennedy turned in one of the most impressive performances of the day, capturing first place in both the triple jump (35-2) and long jump (16-0). Her ability to excel in multiple events highlighted her versatility and played a major role in the Lady Tigers’ overall team success.

Swainsboro continued to build momentum with several second-place finishes. Ja’bios Smith placed second in the boys’ triple jump with a leap of 43 feet 8 inches, while the girls 4x800 relay team delivered a strong performance to secure a runner-up finish through teamwork and endurance.

The Tigers’ depth was on full display with additional podium finishes. Shannon Benjamin added to his day by placing third in the boys’ triple jump (42-0), while Genesis Reese earned a third-place finish in the girls triple jump (32-8), contributing valuable points to the team total.

While April Fools’ Day may have brought its share of laughs elsewhere, there was nothing funny about the effort, focus, and determination shown by the Swainsboro track teams. With both squads finishing in the top three and multiple athletes stepping up in big moments, the Tigers continue to show growth, confidence, and the kind of competitive edge that can carry them far as the season moves forward.

Swainsboro will look to build on that momentum on April 17 as the team travels back to West Laurens High School for another track meet.
