Family Connection is part of the South Central Resilient Georgia cohort with eight surrounding counties who are working toward making our communities aware of mental health issues and building resiliency. We are conducting training with adults, students, and community organizations specifically on the subject of childhood trauma and how it affects us all. We conducted "Connections Matter" with the Swainsboro Fire Department on August 27th, which is a three-hour training covering the topic of adverse childhood experiences. The attendees were very engaged and expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to discuss such issues that are vital to their work as firefighters.
Additionally, we offered a youth-oriented version of the same class called BOUNCE. This was presented to students at Swainsboro Middle School in Ms. Tracey Everett's 6th grade class. The students enjoyed the class as they shared their ideas on how they can stay positive and find support when they are "stressed".
We will continue to share information on how to build resiliency via social media and various literature offerings through the schools and in articles such as these. Please look for more information on the Emanuel County Facebook page.
