The Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH) has awarded Emanuel Medical Center (EMC) with a Rural Hospital Stabilization Grant to support the upcoming expansion of the hospital’s Emergency Department. In addition to the Stabilization Grant, EMC has also recently received a Rural Hospital Support Grant from the DCH and State Office of Rural Health. Both grants are instrumental in advancing the hospital’s mission of providing high-quality, accessible medical care to residents of Emanuel County and the surrounding areas.
EMC’s Emergency Department Manager, Brooke Marsh, and Director of Development, Lynn Brinson, recently met with leaders of the DCH State Office of Rural Health and other rural hospitals from around the state to present plans for the redesign and expansion of the local Emergency Department.
“The expansion of our Emergency Department is vital to meeting the growing needs of our community, and we are deeply grateful for the support we have received from the State Office of Rural Health,” said Marsh. “Our goal is to expand and renovate our current space, enhancing its appearance, efficiency, and workflow to reduce wait times and length of stays in the Emergency Department. With the funding received through these grants, we can make these much-needed improvements and purchase essential equipment to ensure we are able to provide the best care possible to our community. It is my mission to help this department continue to thrive and grow for years to come.”
Eight Georgia hospitals, including EMC, were awarded $875,000 each from the Rural Hospital Stabilization Grant. Additional support for the Emergency Department project will come from the Georgia HEART Rural Tax Credit Program, which allows Georgia taxpayers to direct their state income tax dollars to Emanuel Medical Center.
“Georgia HEART gives Georgia taxpayers the rare opportunity to decide where their tax dollars are spent. Instead of sending our state income tax dollars to Atlanta, we can invest them right here in our community, helping our families, friends, and neighbors,” said Brinson, who administers the Georgia HEART program locally.
