Emanuel County Schools invests in student transportation

Posted

Each school day, Emanuel County Schools buses travel throughout the county transporting students to and from school. Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (ESPLOST) funding has helped the district invest in its transportation fleet and support safe, reliable transportation for students.

ESPLOST funding has supported the district’s ongoing efforts to update and improve its transportation fleet. Funds have been used to purchase buses, add air conditioning to older buses, and implement a new radio system across the fleet to improve communication.

The district has also added stop-arm cameras to enhance student safety while students are loading and unloading from buses. These automated safety systems record vehicles that illegally pass a bus when its stop arm is extended and red lights are flashing.

“Providing safe and reliable transportation for our students is our top priority. ESPLOST funding

has allowed us to make important improvements to our transportation fleet, from purchasing

buses to enhancing communication and safety. These investments help us better serve

students and families throughout Emanuel County,” said Dr. Brandon Andrews, Director of

Transportation.

Twin City Elementary student Ivy Hall recently helped share how ESPLOST funding supports student transportation.

“ESPLOST helps Emanuel County Schools provide safe, reliable transportation for students throughout our community,” Hall said. “Thank you, Emanuel County, for investing in our future.”

The investments in school transportation is one example of how ESPLOST funds are used to support the daily needs of students throughout Emanuel County Schools.
